Audiologist 2009 Winner

Robert Beiny has been named the European Hearing Aid Audiologist of the Year for 2009.

The UK audiologist won Europe’s top award for hearing professionals ahead of colleagues in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden.

He was chosen from a shortlist of national champions which included Bertrand Benoit (France); Frederik Pötzl (Germany); Massimiliano Arcidiaco (Italy); Juan Carlos Calvo (Spain); and Eva Karltorp (Sweden).

Robert, who is also the UK Audiologist of the Year, is the second winner of the prestigious award which is run by Rayovac and Audio Infos magazine. He received multiple nominations for the award but it was the care he provided to a stroke patient, Charles Peck that particularly impressed the Audiologist of the Year judges.

The independently judged award is run by Rayovac to give patients an opportunity to recognise the professionalism and excellence of audiologists who go above and beyond the call of duty to help.

Robert said: “This is a tremendous honour both for me and the Hearing Healthcare Practice. Every audiologist at the practice was individually nominated for the award which is excellent news. We are all a team and the award is as much for my colleagues as it is for me. This is one of the biggest awards an audiologist can win and it’s particularly rewarding that it’s voted for by patients.”
Robert’s intervention helped Charles to tackle his complex hearing problems – his stroke had left him completely deaf in one ear and with limited hearing in the other. A situation made worse by the fact that his existing hearing aid had been damaged during his stroke. Robert visited him numerous times in hospital to fix his old hearing aid and then carefully fit a new device.

In fitting the new hearing aid he clearly demonstrated his skills as a top audiologist, picking a device to meet these unique needs without the need for multiple fittings. He selected a hearing aid that minimises background noise and allows Charles to hear what is being said to him more clearly.
Paula Brinson-Pyke, marketing manager for Rayovac, said: “Robert is an outstanding winner of the award. He has been a prominent figure in the industry for many years and a strong campaigner for people with hearing problems.
